On November 17th and 18th, 62 of our dedicated youth volunteers took part in our annual Fall Peer to Peer program. The program, which occurs both in the fall and the spring, allows for HHS students to present to younger students in the district. This fall, our YAH students presented to all of the 5th grade classrooms in all eight private and public elementary schools in the Hudson district. The YAH presenters talked to the younger students about “Steps to Respect” – an anti-bullying curriculum that focuses on ways to make schools a respectful and bully-free zone.
YAH presenters had students brainstorm ideas for how they could make their school a bully free zone. The students then signed their Positive Behavior Contract, which will remain in their classrooms to serve as a reminder to their agreements to make their school a more respectful place! Other activities included learning the Three R’s (Recognize, Refuse, Report) and icebreaker activities that taught students about gossiping and rumors.
Thank you to all of the YAH volunteers, their parents and especially the teachers at River Crest Elementary, Houlton Elementary, Trinity Academy, Willow River Elementary, E.P. Rock Elementary and Hudson Prairie Elementary!
