We are excited to announce the recipients of the 2016 Youth Action Hudson Volunteer Scholarship. This year we were fortunate enough to be able to award three scholarships to three very deserving young women. This year's recipients are: Clare Weber, Shayla Koeckeritz and Brianna Manke (not pictured).
Collectively, these three exceptional young women have contributed more than 3,000 hours of service to Youth Action Hudson over their combined 8 years of involvement.
Shayla Koeckeritz has been involved in almost every program YAH has to offer. Through her involvement, Shayla says "YAH showed me hands on that youth can truly make a difference. YAH provides experiences and knowledge that cannot be made at home and cannot be learned in school." Shayla will be attending the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire this fall and is planning to study biochemistry. In addition, Shayla says "I want to go to UW Eau Claire and inspire others to make a difference. I want to use my new found leadership skills to impact the community."
Clare Weber has been an active volunteer with Youth Action Hudson since her freshman year of high school. In addition to being heavily involved with our programs, Clare is a three time recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, and most recently was the recipient of Congressman Sean Duffy's "Paul Bunyan Service Above Self" award. Clare says "Thanks to Youth Action Hudson I know what it takes to be a leader, a team member, an activist, and how to make a difference." Clare will be attending Creighton University where she will be studying Pre-Med.
Brianna Manke says that "through my involvement with YAH, I found a way to fill my time with positive and empowering things". Brianna has been an enthusiastic, outspoken volunteer at YAH and has been involved in numerous programs - including Peer to Peer, All Dressed Up and our Students Today Leaders Forever service trip. Brianna is planning to attend the University of Colorado - Boulder this fall, where she plans to be actively involved with their sustainability club and STLF programs.
We are so honored to have worked with such incredible young women. We are certain that they will continue to do incredible things as they pursue their academic and career goals. We are so proud of all the change they have created in the Hudson community and can't wait to see what their futures hold!!!
