Mr. Ed Lucas, former HHS principal and Youth Action Hudson Board of Directors President, was one of two community members to receive the "Service Above Self" award from Hudson Rotary. This award is given annually to members who "demonstrate service, loyalty and devotion to the ideas of Rotary". Rotary is an international service organizations whose purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in the community to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards and help build goodwill and peach in the world. The Hudson Rotary Club's vision statement includes "We are dedicated to helping people and non-profit organizations through focused local and international projects. Our club mentors local youth. We support international exchange students and programs".
This week, we also learned that YAH student volunteer and high school senior, Deena Whitwam, will receive the 2015 Coca Cola Scholars Scholarship. This scholarship is highly competitive and is an achievement based scholarship awarded to students who lead and serve, and demonstrate a commitment to making a significant impact in their schools and communities. Deena has been an active member of YAH since her freshman year and has continually impress and inspired YAH staff, as well as other students. Most recently, she helped organize and facilitate a community wide book drive that collected more than 1,800 books that were sent to a library in Rwanda and Grace Place! We are so proud of her achievement and can't wait to see where the future leads her!
