In December, our youth volunteers began preparations for one of our most popular events - Empty Bowls. Empty Bowls is a program designed to raise awareness of food insecurity and poverty in the Hudson community and around the world. Guests are invited to join us for a simple meal of soup and bread and enjoy musical entertainment. Free will donations are accepted at the event, and all proceeds are donated to an organization that our youth volunteers chose. This year, the event was held at The Phipps Center for the Arts on Saturday February 7th from 5-7pm.
Our youth selected the Hudson Backpack Program to be the recipient of 100% of the proceeds from the event.
For two months, our youth solicited donations for soup, bread, coffee and desserts from businesses in the Hudson community. This year, we had an incredible response and received donations from: Hudson Bagel, Urban Olive & Vine, Hudson Dunn Bros Coffee, Lisa Weber, Cheryl Rasmussen, Cindy Anderson, Joe & Janet Maitrejean, Karen Haselman, Lindsey Mohamed, Winzer Stube, The Subhouse, David Wakeling, Bert's Coffee Cafe, Bruegger's Bagels, Stone Tap and Green Mill (Bloomington,MN). With soups like Chicken Wild Rice and Cheesy Brocolli - we had just about every type of soup imaginable!
In addition to soup and bread, guests also enjoyed desserts from Best Maid Cookie Factory and The Cakery. The dessert table was sponsored by Jamie Grupe of Mid America Wealth Management. Fifth grade students from Maija Stubbendick's 5th grade class at Hudson Prairie decorated placemats for the event!
Guests enjoyed musical entertainment by former YAH student volunteer Michaela Arneson, performing with Divine Serendipity!
A huge thank you to all those who helped support this event through donations and attending. Your support is helping to end hunger and poverty in the Hudson community!
An extra special thank you to all of our youth volunteers: Celia Duffee, Nicole Berdusco, Mitch Rasmussen, Jonah mahowald, Lauren Milbrandt, Drew Midby, Lauren Holmberg, Brittany Germain, Clare Weber, Callie Thielke, Kelley Nelson, Katie Cardell, Grace Lowery, Shayla Koeckeritz, Deena Whitwam, Kate Knott, Sarah Hallen and Alexa Marlow.
