This past summer, Youth Action Hudson students partnered up with Hudson Daybreak Rotary to plan an activity for children currently staying at Grace Place in New Richmond, WI. Our students organized a handful of outdoor games for the kids, and they were having such a great time that Grace Place staff asked if they could stay a little bit longer - and our student volunteers happily agreed! Because our students were keeping the children occupied, adults currently housed at Grace Place had the opportunity to take part in a budgeting workshop.
Our volunteers enjoyed their time at Grace Place so much that they organized another activity in February of this year. Our volunteers organized a Valentine's Day card decorating activity with the children at Grace Place and made some awesome Valentine's Day cards!
The week after making Valentine's cards with the kids at Grace Place, sophomores Kelley Nelson and Katie Cardell expressed an enthusiastic interest in making these activities a monthly event. Kelley and Katie had such a great time at Grace Place and they wanted to continue to visit the kids staying there and plan activities for them each month.
Last month Kelley Nelson, Katie Cardell and Sammy Johnson visited Grace Place to make "shrinky dinks" with the kids. Kelley and Katie are currently working on developing a monthly schedule for the summer months!
Kelley and Katie are proof that youth truly can make a difference. Here at Youth Action Hudson, our mission is to empower and engage youth to make a difference through service, leadership, and education. We are so excited to see two young women so enthusiastic about creating a new service program and we hope they inspire others to do the same!!
