As 2013 comes to a close, Youth Action Hudson would like to take a moment to reflect on some highlights from the year, and thank all of our amazing 100+ volunteers for their incredible work, including giving more than 3,700 hours of service!
We started off the year with our Empty Bowls program, which raises awareness of food insecurity in the St. Croix County. This year, we were able to donate over $800 to the Hudson Back Pack Program.
In April, YAH was also able to make prom dreams come true for over 40 Wisconsin youth through our All Dressed Up program, which provides formal dresses to those who may not otherwise be able to purchase them.
In March, 30+ dedicated YAH youth visited Hudson Middle School in March to speak to 5-8th graders about cyber communication, confidence, and the profile of a high school students as part of our Peer to Peer program.
In June we held our annual Volunteer Recognition Picnic, where we had the pleasure of awarding four YAH students with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. This award is given to individuals who contributed more than 100 hours of community service in a 12 month period.
In July, YAH partnered with organizations such as Sustain Hudson in the River Awareness Week. More than 50 volunteers helped keep the St. Croix River clean during YAH’s second annual River Clean Up!
October was a very exciting month for YAH volunteers, as 33 Hudson High School students boarded a coach bus and headed to St. Louis, MO on the second Youth Action Hudson Pay it Forward Tour! Along our road trip, youth volunteered in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri at places like the Salvation Army and Galesburg Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center.
We are hoping for an equally exciting and successful 2014 year! If you are looking for new ways to volunteer and be more involved in your community – you can do both with Youth Action Hudson! Upcoming events include the 2014 Empty Bowls and Reed Grimm concert on February 8th, 2014 at Hudson High School.
Youth Advisory Board meetings will begin in January. If you or your student is interested in being a part of the planning, please contact YAH via Facebook (facebook.com/YouthActionHudson.WI) or by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org)!
